Makeup Artist Brandalyn Fulton

Brandalyn Fulton, Beauty Makeup Artist recommends Mehron Makeup
On January 14, 2010 the Mehron Makeup News Blog introduced readers to Beauty Makeup Artist Brandalyn Fulton who was swiftly gaining recognition in the field throughout the world of Beauty Makeup. Six months later Ms. Fulton continues to press on in the field of Beauty Makeup and is now a Contributing Beauty Editor at Hopetodaymagazine.com. In an article posted on June 9, 2010 in the Beauty section of Hopetodaymagazine.com Brandalyn Fulton shared some Makeup Artist Tips for Wedding Day Makeup.

Titled, "Prepping for the Big Day…Bridal Day Beauty Must Haves!",Ms. Fulton shared her tips on Makeup Preparation for the Wedding Day for both Women and Men. Ms. Fulton begins her advise with a Mehron Product that the stars of Theater, Film, and Television have known about for a while and brings it to light for everyone, Barrier Spray. This multiple use spray in a non-aersol mist was developed to assist Theatrical Makeup Artists as an under barrier when applying adhesives and 3D Gels in creating Characters for Theatrical Productions. The properties of Barrier Spray accomplish just what the name implies, it creates a barrier between the skin and makeup for endurance and application ease. Barrier Spray also prevents sweat from seeping out of the skin and through the makeup. Face and Body Painting Makeup Artists have discovered that Barrier Spray is perfect as a underlying base before they begin their creations, not only does it act as a moisture barrier between the skin and makeup, it also allows for an easier cleanup especially with darker colors of face and body painting makeup. Beauty Makeup Artists like Ms. Fulton have taken Barrier Spray out of the dressing rooms of theatrical makeup and brought it out into their Beauty Makeup Studios for all Beauty Makeup work including Bridal Makeup.

In her posting for the Beauty section of Hopetodaymagazine.com, Brandalyn Fulton sheds light on her reasons for using Mehron Barrier Spray in her Beauty Makeup Work, "Ladies to ensure the longevity of your foundation use Mehron Cosmetics Barrier Spray to set your makeup at the end. It can also be used prior to makeup application to combat sweating. This is an essential product for both men and women." After a Makeup Artist like Ms. Fulton spends time perfecting the Beauty Look, the last thing they want is the day wearing on and running makeup from sweat. Barrier Spray is also used by many High Fashion Makeup Artists to set powder foundation and makeup products. Calling Barrier Spray an essential is high praise coming from the rising Makeup Artist Star, Brandalyn Fulton.

Pointing out that more and more men are using the services of Beauty Makeup Artists for their Wedding Day and other important days in their lives when they know they will be the subject of photographs, Brandalyn recommends another Makeup Product that has been a secret weapon of Makeup Artists in a variety of Makeup Disciplines, Touch-Up™ Matte Finishing Anti-Shine Gel Treatment. Ms. Fulton explains, " Mehron Cosmetics Touch Up Anti Shine Gel Treatment can be used on both men and women and is a makeup artist go-to product to eliminate shine. It can be used before or after makeup and comes in Dark, Medium, and Light to accommodate different skin tones. Men can wear a foundation, but most find that a little Touch Up Anti Shine Gel will have their skin camera ready." Ms. Fulton continues to grow her freelance Beauty Makeup Clientele because of her innate talent and color blending expertise and her choices in Makeup Products, choosing the right product for the job.

Mehron Barrier Spray and Mehron Touch-Up™ Matte Finishing Anti-Shine Gel Treatment are available around the globe through Authorized Mehron Retailers and can be found in the Makeup Cases of Beauty Makeup Artists and Theatrical Makeup Artists throughout the world. Brandalyn Fulton currently resides in New York and may be contacted for Professional Beauty Makeup Service through her Web Site or by calling 1-917-651-6232 throughout the United States and Canada.

From the Mehron Blog Archives

Today from the Mehron Blog Archives we reach back to a post that was originally published on June 26, 2009 commemorating the Founder of Mehron, Mehron Melik who passed from this earth on June 25, 1977. The June 26, 2009 Blog was titled, A Date to Remember, it read:

June 25th, 2009 was a day that culminated three days of announcements about the deaths of three iconic Professional Performers. June 23, 2009 the announcement of the passing of Ed McMahon was made, June 25th the passing of Farrah Fawcett was announced and the final unexpected announcement that Michael Jackson had died was also made on the same afternoon. June 25, 2009 was a sad day for the Entertainment Industry, losing three distinctly different Professional Performers who each left the earth a prolific body of work. These three days will be remembered for years to come as the deaths of these Professional Performers are commemorated. Mehron Makeup will also commemorate the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson by adding the memory of each of them to the commemoration that occurs at Mehron Makeup every June 25th.

As fate would have it another foundation of the Entertainment Industry departed this earth on June 25th. On June 25th, 1977, Mehron Melik passed from this earth. Fifty years previously in 1927, Mehron Melik founded a Company literally with his own hands. In 1927 Mehron began creating Performance Makeup by hand with personally selected ingredients in a loft off Broadway in New York City. Mr. Melik's neighbors in 1927 were the Professional Performers of the Stage, Theater, Opera, Vaudeville, the Circus and the infancy of the Film Industry. Mehron saw the needs of his neighbors and used his knowledge and expertise in blending components to create a durable, affordable makeup that could be used by Performers who worked in all the various fields of public performance.

In 1927 Makeup Artist was not a recognized profession. The Performers themselves applied their makeup until Mehron Melik sent the Mehron Ladies to instruct the Performers in the proper way to apply Mehron Theatrical Makeup. Each day Mehron formulated theatrical makeup packing it carefully in the makeup bags of the Mehron Ladies and dispatched them to the dressing rooms of theaters throughout New York City. In this way Mehron Makeup was delivered fresh to Performers throughout the New York Entertainment Industry. Decades later Mehron was still hand delivering Makeup to the new hot live entertainment cities of Miami and Havana, Cuba.

Mehron Melik was a foundational block in the growth of Professional Entertainment even though he neither sang, danced or performed professionally, the Make Up that he manufactured by hand performed in all venues. Of particular interest to Mehron was Clown Makeup. Many of his neighbors performed as Professional Clowns, who in those days were the performers who applied the most makeup the most often. Mehron developed and formulated an easy to apply Clown White that was affordable, long lasting, did not fry of chap the skin, yet was easy to remove night after night. Mehron Clown White along with other Mehron Makeup became a staple at the The Greatest Show on Earth, The Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus. Decades after Mehron Melik created the world's Whitest Clown White Makeup, Mehron Makeup Company was making special palette of Clown Makeup for the incoming Freshman attending The Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus official Clown College located in the State of Florida in the USA.

You may not be able to hum a tune that Mehron Melik has written, or watch a film in which he starred, but throughout your life you have been witness to Mr. Melik's contribution to the World of Entertainment. Throughout your life Mehron Melik's products have been a part of your Entertainment Viewing from the Clowns that you hid under your seats from when you were a tot, to the Feature Films like Farrah Fawcett starred in and right through to the Performers in Music Videos that were made an Entertainment Standard by Michael Jackson.

In the mid 1970's the careers of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson were surging towards their pinnacles just as Mehron Melik was winding down his leadership of the Company that he founded in 1927. Mr. Melik was fortunate to have a son, Martin who would take over the helm of Mehron Makeup and continue to serve the Professional Performers of the Entire Entertainment Industry while expanding the product line to include almost all aspects of Makeup, from everyday makeup to Special Effects Makeup. Unlike the legacies that Ms. Fawcett and Mr. Jackson leave behind, Mehron Melik left behind a legacy that continues to grow and expand under the guidance of a second generation of hands on leadership.

Fate has determined that June 25 shall be the day to commemorate the life, work and creations of many who have departed the earth on that date. Fate has also determined that the Memory of Three Entertainment creators shall be memorialized on June 25th.

Best of the Mehron Blog 2009 # 3

June 23 -25, 2009 was a sad day in the Entertainment World as the world lost three entertainers that affect millions of people throughout the years. The Mehron Blog posted on June 25, 2009 concerned the three stars that faded from this earth, Entitled, Mehron Mourns Dimming Stars, it read:

Mehron Makeup mourns three iconic stars of the Entertainment industry who left this earth in the last two days. On June 23, 2009, Ed McMahon, 86 , a fixture on late night Television for over thirty years as the co-host of the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, died after a long battle with cancer. Mr. McMahon spent much of his career in Television Studios beginning in 1957. Ed McMahon continued to work in Television until 2008. His record of over 30 years as the co- host of the Tonight Show was surpassed by his 47 years as co-host of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. Ed McMahon was a Television Star who will not soon be forgotten and will take his place in the Radio and Television Hall of Fame.

On the morning of June 25, 2009 the world learned that another Entertainment icon had succumbed to cancer at the age of 62, Miss Farrah Fawcett. Ms. Fawcett worked her way through the Entertainment industry from product spokesperson to feature film star. Along the way Farrah Fawcett turned a red one piece bathing suit into a symbol of the 1970's with a poster that sold over 12 million copies. Ms. Fawcett rose to Television Stardom in the hit Television Show, Charlie's Angels and parlayed that fame into roles in feature films. As she worked her way through a series of commercial entertainment productions, Ms. Fawcett continued to strive to be recognized as a dramatic actress. Even after attaining a height of stardom that most actresses can only dream of Farrah Fawcett took on a grueling role in the Off Broadway production of Extremities, written by William Mastrosimone, and followed that up with a critically acclaimed role in the TV Movie, The Burning Bed which earned her the first of three Emmy Award nominations.

Later in afternoon of June 25, 2009 news broke that Pop Icon Michael Jackson had died in UCLA Medical Center after suffering an apparent massive cardiac arrest. Mr. Jackson, age 50, has been thrilling audiences with his melodic singing since he was 7 years old. Throughout his illustrious entertainment career Michael Jackson achieved milestone after milestone selling hundreds of millions of copies of his recordings and is credited with creating the world of Music Videos. Michael Jackson's life as an Entertainer was tainted by his personal turmoils and idiosyncrasies but his place on the world stage of iconic entertainers can not be denied. Although his death is at a much younger age than Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett, the volume of work that he leaves behind stacks up against any entertainers career.

The shining light of these three entertainers may have dimmed in the last two days, but the magic gift that they were given are part of the recorded history of the Entertainment Industry. Although all three were American Entertainers each of them were recognized around the world by billions of people. Mehron joins with world in saying, good bye and thanks for the memories to these three Giants of the Professional Performance Industry.

Coulrophobia, or Fear of Clowns

Coulrophobia, or Fear of Clowns can be conquered with Mehron Clown Makeup
Michele Norris of National Public Radio (NPR) in a segment for All Things Considered titled, Clowns Teach People Not To Be Afraid Of ... Clowns interviewed Paul Carpenter about a rarely spoken about phobia, coulrophobia. Coulrophobia is a fear of clowns. Mr. Carpenter is Popol the clown in John Lawson's Circus. Ms. Norris lays the foundation of the interview with the first revealing question to Paul Carpenter,"Now, do I understand this right? Coulrophobia is the third most common phobia in all of Britain?"

Mr. Carpenter explains that yes indeed in Britain according to a Nation Newspaper Poll, Coulrophobia is number three on the phobia list behind, spiders and needles. The heart of the interview goes on to discuss the "therapy" that the clowns of John Lawson's Circus are using in hopes of helping people overcome their fear of Clowns. For Circus Clowns in Circuses similar to John Lawson's Circus this might be a economic necessity rather than a strictly therapeutic endeavor. John Lawson's Circus is like a lot of traveling circuses, a small circus. This non-animal circus, like most small circuses, visits towns and villages that the larger circuses that the large circus bypasses. Drawing an audience is done the old fashioned way, using the circus clowns to attract people into the big tent for the show. If, however, there is a prevalence of coulrophobia lurking among the populace, Clowns would not be the best spokespeople when the circus comes to town.

The NPR Host, Michele Norris gets to the heart of Clown Therapy as run by Paul Carpenter and the clowns of John Lawson's Circus by asking, "So how do you do that? How do you help people get over that fear? " To which Mr. Carpenter answers, "Well, if anyone wants to come for some clown therapy -we're also calling it clownseling - we invite them to the big top during the day when it's quiet and they meet me and our other clown, but they meet us in our normal, everyday guises, not in makeup or anything. And then we take them into the circus ring, and they watch us as we slowly transform ourselves into our clown personalities.

We put on our makeup very slowly, and then we put on our costumes. And if that goes well and they haven't run for the door, we then try and get them interacting with us in the circus ring. We go through a few clown routines, getting them involved. And if that goes well, our ultimate aim is to get the person themselves dressed up in costume and makeup, and then we help them find their own inner clown."

Mr. Carpenter and his fellow Clownselors approach Coulrophobia with tried and true truisms, "until you walk a mile in someone's shoes........", and if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" are applicable in their approach. By showing the person behind the clown face, clown therapy starts with basic human interaction, which enforces in the phobic's mind that a clown is a person in costume. Relieving the anxiety by pitting on their clown makeup in front of their fearful audiences unmasks the mystery of the clown.

Helping people to find, "their own inner clown" as Mr. Carpenter puts it is not only a good idea for those afflicted with Coulrophobia may also be a beneficial approach to a number of fears. The clown is not only the mysterious white face in makeup, the clown has served many roles throughout the history of civilization. The character of the clown has offered great writers the freedom, in restrictive times, to give voice to points of view through his antics and lines. It is the jester, the precursor to the clown who was permitted the leeway of poking fun at the outlandishness and repression of Royal dictates. By once again revealing the humanity behind the clown makeup, Mr. Carpenter and his fellow clowns from John Lawson's Circus are advancing the traditional role of the clown.

Those around the world who will never cross paths with John Lawson's Circus can follow Mr. Carpenter's advice and find your inner clown with Mehron Clown Makeup, the Professional Clown Makeup used by Clowns throughout the world. You can conquer your Coulrophobia with a personal collection of Professional Clown Makeup which will help you find your inner clown.

Semi-Pro Winners at FABAIC 2010

The last day of the 2010 FABAIC (Face and Body Art International Convention) was May 30, 2010, the seminars ended, the workshops were closed, and the winners in the competitions packed up their awards and memories and headed to the airport for destinations around the world. The Art of Face Painting goes back to the beginning of recorded history, maybe not as intricately as today but humans have been using their face as a canvas to portray emotions for centuries. Today's Face Painting is not to convey strength to the enemy such as war paint, or to call upon the gods for recognition, but rather to express a living art with safe removable Face Painting Makeup in a selection of colors that past civilizations could not have even imagined.

FABAIC is an International gathering of Face Painting and Body Painting Makeup Artists from around the world who have been meeting in Orlando, Florida, USA for nine years in a community event that lasts for five days. FABAIC offers Artists from around the world to interact with each other, feed off each others creative energy, explore new techniques, experience new make up introductions and share their knowledge with their fellow artists. FABAIC is not limited to the Professional Makeup Artist, it is open to all levels of Face Painting Makeup Artist and offers the opportunity for all to participate and compete on a level field.

In the Face Painting Competition at FABAIC there are four divisions, Youth, Novice, Semi-Pro and Pro, thus allowing those at different levels to experience the thrill of competition among Artists at their same level. Tonight Mehron would like to congratulate the winners of Face Painting Awards in the Semi-Pro Division of FABAIC and salute all those who spent grueling hours participating in this event. In the Face Painting Competition Semi-Pro Division the First Place Winner was Michelle Pulsifer, followed by Lauren Rae Chismar and Marie Villlalba in second and third place respectively. Mehron Makeup is proud sponsor and participant in FABAIC and extends congratulations not only to the winners and participants but to the organizers and producers of this magical event. Mehron Makeup looks forward to participating again in 2011 on May 25-30 and bringing to the Exhibition Hall the newest in Face Painting and Body Painting Makeup Innovations that are introduced from now until then.

Broadway Photographs 1900-1930

Dr. David S. Shields, McClintock Professor at the University of South Carolina has begun documenting an important era in American Theater on a Web Site entitled, Broadway Photographs, Art Photography & The American Stage 1900-1930. This beautifully organized documentation joining the Art of Photography and the Art of the American Theater, specifically Broadway Theater seeks to preserve and share photographs from an important American Artistic Era. The mission statement of this exquisite historical preservation project states, "Histories of the theater have long recognized the importance of the period 1914-1934" and continues, "Photography remains the most evocative medium preserving these landmark innovations. Yet the photographers who enable us to see the stage bloom into creative maturity have rarely been recognized for their contributions to the making of the American theater, particularly for their role in the fashioning of the visual languages of glamour, psychological dread, and 'the new.' Conversely, the theater's influence upon the visual language of 20th century photography, has not received its due." Broadway Photographs is a beginning towards just recognition of these two mediums joining together to present a view of the heyday of the Broadway Stage.

To Mehron Makeup, Leaders in Theatrical Makeup since 1927, the historical significance of the work of Dr. Shields is greatly appreciated. Seeking to preserve a visual account of this important time from the American Stage is tantamount to preserving a visual record of the beginnings of a significant aspect of the American Entertainment Industry. It is the era when Mehron Theatrical Makeup was founded, and the time when the founder interacted with the Performers of the era. Regretfully Mehron Makeup does not have a pictorial historic account of this era, this project by Dr. Shields reveals important depictions of the People who were contemporaries to the Mehron Founder, Mehron Melik.

The long list of historical credits for Broadway Photographs is available in the "About Us" section of the Web Site. The Photographs are culled from the private collection of Dr. David S. Shields and the Jay Parrino collection titled, The Mint. A host of other collaborators contribute to this work in progress. The magical collection of photographs are worth spending time with for anyone interested in the history of the American Theater and the people who are a part of it. For Makeup Artists viewing this collection it is important to note that they capture the period when Theatrical Makeup was in its infancy, Makeup Artist as a Profession did not exist, Mehron Melik would personally produce his makeup, visit the dressing rooms of performers and help them apply it. As the era progressed and the amount of shows increased, the Mehron Ladies would pack their bags and spread out throughout the Theater District selling Makeup to the Performers and becoming their Makeup Advisers.

Broadway Photographs offers a unique glimpse into an important era with a vast collection that continues to grow. The Mehron Blog only has room for a small sampling of these amazing photographs, to get lost in their captivity visit, Broadway Photographs, Art Photography & The American Stage 1900-1930.

2010 Tony Award Nominations

2010 Tony Awards
The Tony Awards began in 1947, twenty years after Mehron Makeup was founded in an off Broadway loft by Mehron Melik. Mehron was witness to the construction and opening nights of the large theaters that became the Broadway Theater District. One of the few Entertainment Awards that do not present an award for Makeup, the Tony Awards Show is a Broadway extravaganza. After decades of private ceremonies in large Ballrooms, CBS began televising the Tony Awards in 1977 and continues to be the broadcast outlet to this day.

This year Tony Awards night is June 13, 2010 and will emanate from Radio City Music Hall, an iconic Manhattan institution which opened to the public in 1932. Radio City Music Hall became the Tony Awards venue in 1997 in order to accommodate a larger crowd and offer seats to the general public. Although Radio City Music Hall is not considered part of the Broadway Theater District of New York City, its place in Theater History is renowned. Originally built as a joint venture between John D. Rockefeller, RCA chairman David Sarnoff, and Samuel Roxy Rothafel, who opened The Roxy Theather in 1927 the same year that Mehron Makeup started providing Makeup to the Professional Performers of the Broadway Theater District.

The 2010 Tony Nominations for Best Play include, In the Next Room or the vibrator play, Author Sarah Ruhl, Next Fall, Author Geoffrey Nauffts, Red, Author John Logan and Time Stands Still, Author Donald Margulies. Some Broadway veterans are nominated along with new faces for Best Performances including, Jude Law, Hamlet, Denzel Washington, Fences, Linda Lavin, Collected Stories, Jan Maxwell, The Royal Family, Kelsey Grammer, La Cage aux Folles, Sahr Ngaujah, Fela! along with others. Best Costume Design of a Musical includes nominees, Narina Draghici, Fela! Paul Tazell, Memphis, and Matthew Wright, La Cage aux Folles.

The Red Carpet opens at 6:00 P.M. ET, with the main event beginning at 8:00 PM ET on live CBS TV throughout most of the Nation. West Coast CBS Viewers will see a time delayed rebroadcast at 8:00 P.M. PT.

Even though there is not yet a prime time award for Makeup Artist in the Tony Schedule, Theatrical Makeup goes hand in hand with the art of theater and Mehron has been a part of the Theater World since 1927, producing Theatrical Makeup, FX Makeup, Beauty Makeup and Special Request Makeup for the producers, directors and stars of Broadway. Mehron congratulates all Tony Award Nominees for the perfection that they bring to live theater which is an important part of the human culture.
