Congratulations Graduates

Mehron Makeup Welcomes the Class of 2011 to the world of Makeup

Mehron Makeup would like to extend congratulations to all the Graduates of 2011. Graduating is an achievement that invokes many emotions, happiness that an achievement has been accomplished and trepidation of the unknown future. Graduates of 2011 will take their next step in life, some to Secondary School, some to Colleges and Universities, some into trade schools and some into the work force. In the United States, the High School Graduating Class of 2011 is the largest in decades, which means that Colleges and Universities will see their largest admissions increases in over twenty years. Even with those increases, trade schools are also expecting higher enrollments throughout the next decade.

The United States Department of Labor estimates that those entering the field of Cosmetology will have an easier time than most in finding work within the next few years, estimating that there will be a 20% increase in the Cosmetology Workforce demand which is a faster growth rate than other occupations. The field of Cosmetology encompasses many personal services disciplines, including barbers, hairdressers, and makeup artists. Similarly, The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics is projecting a 17% increase in employment for Theatrical and Performance Makeup Artists, again a projected larger demand than other occupational fields. Although the Department of Labor breaks out Theatrical and Performance Makeup Artists as a separate occupation from Cosmetology, it does not yet separate Face Painting and Body Painting Makeup, which is an artistry that is growing even faster because of the advent of High Definition and Three Dimension cameras.

A portion of the Graduating Class of 2011 from secondary institutions will pursue careers in Cosmetology and as they delve into their new endeavor will soon realize that a career in Cosmetology has many specialties. At Theaters, On Television, Movie and Video Sets there are Makeup Artists. Even amongst these Theatrical and Performance Makeup Artists there are many fields of specialties to pursue, including Special Effects Makeup, Beauty Makeup and Character Makeup.

As Graduates of 2011, the joy of completing one part of life, now leaves the planning for the next. For those who are creative, love people, color, travel and challenges, a career as a Professional Makeup Artist offers a world of opportunity. Mehron Makeup, with an eighty-four year history in the development, formulation and manufacturing of Makeup knows the excitement of achievement and the anxiety of new challenges. To all the Graduates of 2011, Mehron Makeup congratulates you and wishes you all the success in the future no matter what your endeavor.

Award for Mehron Clown White

Mehron Clown White, The White Face Makeup since 1927Link
Everyone is thrilled to have their work applauded. Mehron Makeup is of course very proud of recent awards from Essence Magazine and O Magazine for their Beauty Makeup, especially since Beauty Makeup is a fairly new addition to the Mehron Family of Specialty Makeup Products. Winning Beauty Makeup Awards from prestigious Beauty Magazines for a Makeup Line that is in its infancy can not be understated. Throughout the eighty four year history of Mehron Makeup, the accolades have come from the end users. In the roaring 20's, throughout the Great Depression, during world War II and into the stability of the 1950's Mehron Makeup would counted on the end users satisfaction for confirmation that their Makeup was award winning quality. The awards during the first decades were the letters to the the New York Offices of Mehron Makeup from Clowns, Actors, Actresses, Opera Singers, Ballet Dancers, Mimes and Performers of all kinds In 2011, Mehron still hears from the end users of the Mehron Makeup Collection which now includes, Face Painting Makeup artists, Body Painting Makeup Artists and Fashion and Beauty Makeup Artists, although it is most often by email, the sentiments are still the same.

Even after eighty-four years of producing Mehron Clown White, letters about the quality of this Mehron Makeup, that was once the cornerstone of the Mehron Makeup Line are still received at the New York Corporate Headquarters of Mehron Makeup. Recently, a letter written by Hastings Padua was received at Mehron. Just as Mehron is honored to be recognized with an O-Award and The Essence Beauty Award, each of the letters received by Mehron Makeup from the end users are treasured as much as Industry Awards. Mehron Makeup exists for the Actor portraying a Monster, an Actress portraying Ophelia, the Soprano on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, the Dancer in the footlights of Lincoln Center, the Model on the Runway of New York Fashion Week, the Face Painting Artist at a Community Fair, The Body Painting Artist on the Set of a Commercial, and for everyone who appreciates Makeup that highlights, beautifies and accents with thoroughly researched, formulated ingredients produced in the USA free from animal testing. It goes without saying that Mehron will always have a special place for the clowns, the clown hobbyists and working clowns who appreciate the Professional Clown Makeup by Mehron and recognize that a Clown is a Clown, but a great clown is a Mehron Clown.

Hello and to whom this may concern,
First off, thank you so much for providing clowns with such incredible makeup products. I have used other brands but always come back to Mehron in the end. Although I am far from being a professional clown, I am always excited to use Mehron's clown makeup because of it's durability, vibrancy, and mostly because my skin never breaks out after using it!

I just wanted to share with you that it was one of your clowns that inspired me to pursue clowning as a hobby. It's been probably at least six years since I first saw photos of this clown, at which point I remember researching clowns, particularly whiteface clown makeup. I was probably about 14 or 15 at the time, and had seriously begun pursuing clowning as a hobby. Since then, I have been inspired by his makeup, costume, and character, and quietly attribute my interest in clowning to him. It wasn't until just a few days ago that I finally found his name in the Mehron Clown Makeup catalog, "Nappy" from St. Cloud, MN. I've also seen him model costumes for Priscilla Mooseburger Originals, as well. Now that I am nearly finished with my undergrad education, I am hoping to find an opportunity to clown around seriously, perhaps even join a troupe of some sorts. It is all because of Nappy. Although I'm sure you do not pass out any of your models' info, if you know this clown/person and still keep in touch, please send him my regards and share my story with him.

Again, thank you so, so much! I will always be a clown devoted to Mehron products thanks to the fantastic quality as well as the whiteface clown who inspired it all for me.
Best, Hastings Padua

Historic Clown Makeup For Today

Mehron Clown Makeup, the Original Clown Makeup
Mehron Clown Makeup dates back to its founding in 1927. Mehron Whiteface Makeup, a staple of the theatrical performers, mimes and clowns morphed into Clown White, a pure white foundation makeup for White Face Clowns. Anyone under 84 years old is sure to have seen Mehron Clown White in person, as it has set the standard for White Face Clowns since 1927. Modified and improved throughout the decades for a creamier, smoother, longer lasting application, the purity of Clown White, has been favored by clowns the world over. Mehron Clown Makeup was such a favorite of the Clowns of the Greatest Show on Earth, that when they opened their Clown College, Mehron was selected to produce the Clown Makeup Palettes that each student received upon entering the Ringling Barnum Bailey Clown College.

In 1927 Mehron was noted for specialty Theatrical Makeup, Film Makeup and Clown Makeup. Now in 2011 Mehron is the producer of Award Winning Beauty Makeup, Fashion Makeup, Glamor Makeup, Face Painting Makeup and Body Painting Makeup , yet still the famous maker of Theatrical Makeup seen on stages from Broadway in New York City to the Sets of Bollywood in India, and Clown Makeup seen the world over. Every Mehron Makeup Product researched, formulated and introduced to the public has roots that date back to 1927, when Mehron was the Makeup preferred by those that counted on Makeup as an essential to their professions, Performers and Clowns.

Throughout the years as Mehron has always been at the forefront of the newest Makeup demands, from Stages, Circus Tents and film, to television, video, and Face and Body Painting Makeup, Mehron has consistently introduced the newest in Makeup formulations with the safest ingredients, true colors and long lasting wear. Even now, as Mehron delves into the world of Fashion and Beauty Makeup, it is still the major producer of Professional Clown Makeup that is used around the world by the Clowns of the Greatest Show on Earth to the Clowns who perform on the streets and in the parks. In 2011 Mehron Clown White is still the creamiest, purest white clown face makeup that won't crack and peel in the middle of a performance. Joined now by an array of new Clown Clown Face Makeup Colors available in the HYPER-FORMANCE CreamBlend™ , ProFACE Clown Base and ProFACE Gala Competition Makeup, the original Mehron Clown Bases are still the foundation of the Mehron Clown Makeup Line, celebrating its eighty fourth year as the essential Clown Makeup.

The 2011 Tony Awards

Mehron Theatrical Makeup and The Tony Awards
Antoinette Perry (1888-1946) was an actress, director and co-founder of the American Theatre Wing, an organization as defined by their mission statement "dedicated to supporting excellence and education in theatre". People outside of the inner circle of theatre may not recognize her name, but they certainly know the award named after her, The Tony Award. Twenty years after Mehron Makeup was founded, the First Tony Awards were presented on April 6, 1947 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, since 1997 the Tony Awards have been held at the historic Radio City Music Hall. In the beginner the Tony Award Winners were determined by a committee of The American Theatre Wing, today the judges for The Tony Award number over 700 from most disciplines of the Entertainment Industry. When the Tony Awards were first presented in 1947, Mehron Theatrical Makeup was mostly applied by the performers themselves, with help from costume designers, and the Mehron Ladies, the Mehron Sales Force who each day hand delivered Fresh Makeup to the Theaters throughout New York City.

Although Theatrical Makeup is an integral part of the live performances that are honored by The Tony Awards, there is still not a category to honor the Makeup Artist who works back stage at every performance physically transforming the actors into their characters. In 1947 the Tony Awards began with six categories, today there are twenty six distinct categories including over all show recognition for Best Play, Best Musical, Best Revival of a Play and Best Revival of a Musical. The Performers are awarded Tony Awards for Best Actor, Featured Actor, Best Actress and Featured Actress. Best Directors are awarded The Tony for Best Direction of a Play and for Best Direction of a Musical. Although The Tony Awards have yet to add a Best Makeup Category, the behind the scenes Technical People who make the stage a reality are recognized with Tony Awards for Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. Best Choreography and Best Orchestration categories for each season's The Tony Awards. Special Tony Awards are given each year for Lifetime Achievement and humanitarian work within the Theatrical Community, along with a Regional Theatre Tony Award that recognizes live Theatrical Production Groups around the Country, the 2011 winner was The Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago, Illinois, single out for their live experimental productions of newly written plays as well as their adaptions of classic stage productions.

Through the over eight decade history of Mehron Theatrical Makeup, the Company has been a part of the Broadway Scene from the days of the building of the Palace Theaters, through the hard times and the revivals of the Great White Way, and is still there today as Broadway sets a record breaking revenue year. As we congratulate the winners of the 2011 Tony Awards, Mehron would like to applaud all of the people who make the Broadway Theatrical Experience a one of a kind live theatrical event for audiences day in and day out. To the people in the ticket Linkbooths, the ushers, the concessionaires, the stage hands, and especially the Makeup Artists , Mehron, Leaders in Theatrical Makeup since 1927, salutes all as we congratulate the Winners of the 2011 Tony Awards.

Mehron, Megan, Makeup Show 2011

Megan

In October 2009 Megan Hill was the Key Makeup Artist for the Mehron Team at Rock Fashion Week held in Miami, Fl, USA. Megan Hill and the Mehron Makeup Artist Team experienced a challenging week planning, designing and applying a variety of makeup looks to compliment the Runway Shows of Rock Fashion Week. The Mehron Makeup Team led by Megan Hill delved into the colors of Mehron Makeup to compliment the Fashion Presentations of the Rock Fashion Week Designers that included the hot, bright colors of KRELwear as well as the warm, sensual shades of biatta intimates. The career of Beauty Makeup Artist Megan Hill is as varied as the fashion presentations on the Runway of Rock Fashion Week. Ms. Hill, doing a make over for Pamela Anderson working with the Goo Goo Dolls and acting as Personal Makeup Artist foe Katrina Campins, most recognizable as a contestant on The Apprentice, the US reality television show that features Donald Trump.

When Megan Hill created a new look for Pamela Anderson, she began with Velvet Finish Primer, a propriety Mehron formulation that focuses on nourishing the skin to achieve a smooth, natural complexion. Velvet Finish Primer is a spa treatment in a bottle, smoothing, and nourishing skin, turning it into a fresh smooth canvas before foundation makeup is applied. If Beauty Expert Megan Hill were to do a Makeover for Pamela Anderson again, Celebré Pro HD Make-Up would offer her a foundation makeup hue that would be a natural, fresh color compliment for the skin shade of Ms. Anderson.Link
Celebré Pro HD Make-Up offers everyone the option of a foundation makeup that is right for their skin tone. When doing the makeover for Pamela Anderson, Makeup Artist Megan Hill wanted to tone down the heavy caked look that had become the Pamela Anderson Look, Ms. Hill selected Mehron Makeup Cream Products, LIP Color Cream, and CHEEK Cream, accented with the soft silky smooth E.Y.E. Powder to turn the Pamela Anderson Makeup Look into a look that exuded a smooth, youthful, natural look for Ms. Anderson.

All the bases were covered with Megan Hill joining Jinny at The Makeup Show NYC 2011, in May. Bob Kelly - 1923-2011

In Memory of Makeup Artist Bob KellyIn Memory of Bob Kelly 1923-2011

Bob Kelly was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1923, four years before the founding of Mehron Makeup. The curtain closed for this 87 year old legendary Wig Maker and Makeup Artist in Nyack, New York on April 18, 2011. Following in the footsteps of his Irish Grandfather, who immigrated to the United States to ply his trade as a wig maker, Bob Kelly was an apprentice to Ira Senz, who was touted as a Master Wig Maker. After returning home from World War II with two Bronze Service Stars, Bob Kelly, then in his twenties, began doing Makeup for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, NY, home to Mehron Makeup and supplier of many specialty Makeup Products to the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway Shows, Film and Television Studios.

In the early days of prime time Television, Bob Kelly was the Makeup Artist for The Phil Silvers Show, a Television situation comedy hit show at CBS. Bob Kelly practiced his trade as a Makeup Artist from early mornings, he was the Makeup Artist for the hit children's show, Captain Kangaroo, to late night, working for live prime time television. As a New York based Makeup Artist Mr. Bob Kelly was a part of the cultural transformation that occurred in 1964 when he did the Makeup and Hair for the first appearance of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.

In the 1950's Bob founded Bob Kelly Wig Creations in Midtown Manhattan and later Bob Kelly Cosmetics, both with offices across the Street from another New York Makeup icon, Mehron Melik, founder of Mehron Makeup. Bob Kelly was a frequent visitor to Mehron Makeup and chatted for hours with Mr. Melik, sharing Makeup secrets, seeking advise and exploring ideas about Makeup innovation and application.

With Mehron supplying Theatrical Makeup to Theaters on and off Broadway, Bob Kelly was the Makeup Artist for Broadway hits that included, South Pacific, and West Side Story. Bob Kelly, Wig Maker, and Makeup Artist was a fixture on Broadway, even working on the Disney Production, Beauty and the Beast, and after his retirement in 2008 he made the wigs for Shrek, The Musical, for which Mehron developed a special Ogre Green Makeup.

The body of makeup work by Bob Kelly has been enjoyed by decades of Television Viewers and Theater goers, and like most Makeup Artists, he was invisible to the public. For thirty years, Bob Kelly supplied the wigs and makeup for one of Television's most enduring late night shows, Saturday Night Live unbeknownst to its audience as it enjoyed the characters he created.

During his visits to Mehron located across the street from his own Makeup Company offices, Mr. Kelly became interested in buying Mehron and although tempted, Mehron Melik declined his offer. He instead opted to pass the reins of Mehron Makeup to his son, Martin Melik, the current President of Mehron Makeup, who continues the innovation and introduction of Makeup Products that was his Father's passion for over fifty years.

In the world of Makeup, Bob Kelly was a giant, whose contributions are incalculable to the stage and television studios of the last five decades and to the art of Makeup Application. As a friend, contemporary and competitor, Bob Kelly will be missed by Mehron and all the lives that this unique person touched throughout his time on earth.
