Asbury Park, NJ Record Zombie Walk - Photo by Jason Meehan
Zombie Walks are taking over the world not just in October but year round. Cities large and small are the scene of Zombie Walks with a large amount of them concurring during Halloween Month. Folklore points to an organized Zombie Parade to promote a summer midnight film festival in Sacramento, CA. Non-Commercial Zombie Walks have since been organized throughout the world and have become annual events in such cities as Toronto, Canada, Houston, Texas, USA, Brisbane, Australia, London, England, Paris France and Asbury Park, New Jersey, USA. The Guinness Book of World Records currently recognizes the 2010 Halloween Eve Zombie Walk as the largest in the world with an official count listed at 4093, with the Asbury Park Police and Fire Departments estimating the Zombie count at 5,000. Since the October 30, 2010 record breaking Zombie Walk, cities throughout the world have gathered ever larger numbers of Zombies, with the 2011 Brisbane Walk estimated at 12,000.

Not only does Asbury Park, NJ boast the record for the largest Zombie Walk it also holds the record for the strongest earthquake ever recorded in New Jersey on June 1, 1927. A Mehron Halloween on The Rachel Ray Show 2010

On October 6th, 2010 the Mehron Makeup Team under the direction of Key Makeup Artist Megan Hester visited the New York Set of The Rachel Ray Show for a taping of the 2010 Rachel Ray Halloween Special which aired on October 29, 2011. The Mehron Halloween on The Rachel Ray Show was covered in a Mehron Blog posting on October 11, 2010 in a post entitled

The Rachael Ray Show

The Rachael Ray Show hosted an Early Halloween with Mehron Makeup
Rachael Ray, born in Glens Falls, NY August 25, 1968, currently hosts a New York City based show that is syndicated around the world. A co-production of Rachael Ray and Oprah Winfrey, The Rachael Ray Show currently draws 2.6 million daily viewers in America, making it one of the most widely viewed daytime shows. The path that Ms. Ray took to becoming one of the most watched Television Personalities has taken many turns, all involving food. Growing up in a family that owned and managed restaurants it is easy to see how Rachael became attracted to food preparation. Throughout her rise from Candy Counter Salesperson at Macy's to her starring role in Television's widely viewed daytime entertainment show, she has always insisted that she is not a chef, rather a cook.

After her stint as at the Candy Counter of Macy's New York, Ms. Ray moved back to upstate New York to become a buyer for a Gourmet Market. It was as a buyer that she developed her trade mark thirty minute meals in response to meeting customers that thought that cooking a good meal took too much time. Ms. Ray began teaching a course on cooking "30 Minute Meals" which led to a weekly segment on the local CBS affiliate newscast. Her earthiness, charm and straight talk with Rachael Ray colloquialisms made her a hit.

Rachael turned her classes and weekly news segments into her first of many cook books, 30 Minute Meals. A radio appearance promoting her first cook book brought her to the attention of the Today Show, where her appearance was noticed by The Food Network Executives who signed her almost immediately, recognizing that her down to earth New York mannerisms, charm and speaking style would endear her to their audience. The 2007 Oxford American College Dictionary added the phrase, EVOO, short for extra-virgin olive oil and credited Rachael Ray for coining the phrase.

After many shows on The Food Network including winning on Iron Chef America, Ms. Ray signed a deal with Oprah Winfrey and King World Productions to host a syndicated daytime talk show. With her natural ease, Ms. Ray has been nominated for and won Daytime Emmy Awards for her popular show.

The Rachael Ray Show combines guests, pop culture, entertainment and cooking, for an all around format that continues to gain popularity. Ever present is the small town New York State manners and ease of communication in her approach to every interview and cooking demonstration.

On October 6, 2010, The Mehron Makeup Team under the direction of Head Makeup FX Artist Meagan Hester visited the set of the Rachael Ray Show and turned Ms. Ray, her husband John Cusimano, guests and a flash mob into Halloween Characters using Mehron Makeup, founded in New York City in 1927. The streets of New York were turned into Halloween on October 6, 2010 for The Rachael Ray Show that will be broadcast on the ABC Network on October 29, 2010, check your local listings for broadcast times. With host Rachael Ray, Head FX Makeup Artist and Halloween Makeup by Mehron all hailing from New York, the world will see a New York Halloween on this special Halloween Rachael Ray Show.

Orange Makeup for Spring and Autumn

Mehron CHEEK Cream Tech Orange

Orange and Halloween are a natural. In 2012, orange will also be a summer color according to the Fashion Design Team of Costello Tagliapietra. As noted by Chloe Butcher in a Blog posting on September 18, 2011, "Next up on my hit list is Costello Tagliapietra’s look for their S/S12 show in New York. This make-up shouts ORANGE and will light up any room. It’s a real summer winner and I think we will be seeing a lot of orange next year." To get the Costello Tagliapietra Spring Look, Makeup Artist Chloe Butcher points to Mehron CHEEK Cream in Tech Orange.

Mehron Makeup introduced Tech Orange CHEEK Cream in late 2010 in anticipation of the desire for daring colors in the Fashion Makeup Space. The Editors of O Magazine were also anticipating orange as the next hot beauty makeup color, evidenced by their choice for a 2011 Spring Makeup O-Ward. Any Day Zombies

Create a Zombie with Mehron Halloween Makeup
It seems that Zombies are everywhere these days, turn on the news and Zombies are even protesting. The Zombie has had its share of the spotlight. Movies, Television and Music Video have all had Zombies in starring roles. Today, Zombies are even starring in the National News as they protest in New York City. A Zombie is a Character that allows for a great deal of artistic license when creating one with makeup. After all Zombies are the walking dead, reflecting the individually of the living person before they were a Zombie. The Zombie is a Halloween Character that you can be be as individual as you like, there are basic Zombie Characteristics, like torn flesh, that you can achieve with 3D Gel by Mehron.

3-D Gelatin Effects is used to create realistic three dimensional special effect additions to a character’s makeup. Mehron has developed this 3-D Gel to create Realistic 3-D Effects in Blood Red, Clear and Flesh tone in multiple bottle sizes. You can create most ghoulish effects with 3-D Gel. To use the 3-D Gelatin Effects just heat it to a liquid form, brush on, allow curing, and carve it up to your delight. There is no adhesive needed when using the 3-D Gelatin Effects. 3-D Gelatin Effects removes from skin and hair with warm water. 3-D Gel, Gelatin Effects may be used as a substitute for latex on children.

Zombies begin with either 3-D Gel by Mehron or with Extra Flesh with Fixative A both from the Special Effects Makeup Collection by Mehron, the First Name in Theatrical Makeup since 1927. Extra Flesh with Fixative A is easy to use; just rip off a chunk, dab it on and blend it out. This special carded package of Extra Flesh by Mehron comes with a safe non-toxic adhesive, Fixative A used by Special Effect Makeup Artists throughout the entertainment world. Extra Flesh is a synthetic makeup product that can be reused and is easy to apply and remove. This package of Extra Flesh with Fixative A is especially packaged for smaller Special Effects Makeup applications.

After creating torn flesh with Mehron 3-D Gel or with Extra Flesh with Fixative A, it's color time, time to add the bruises, scars, coagulated blood, and decaying teeth, which can all be done using Mehron Makeup Pro-Color Rings, and Mehron Tooth F/X. Once you have the extra, peeling flesh that you have created using one of Mehron Makeup Special Effects Makeup Products, and you have achieved a skin tone that is Zombie, now it's time for your imagination to take over and to color your Zombie Makeup Character with the highlighting colors that you prefer.

If you want to be a Halloween Zombie or a Zombie any day of the year and are hesitant about choosing the right Professional Theatrical Makeup Colors and Products, Mehron Makeup had a Professional Makeup Artist preselect the Mehron Makeup that they would use to create a Zombie and have packaged it in a Zombie Makeup Character Kit. To ease the fear of using Professional Theatrical Makeup to create a Halloween Zombie that will rule the night, Mehron even included a Makeup Artist with each kit in the form of illustrated, detailed step by step instructions on how to create your Zombie using the preselected Professional Theatrical Makeup contained in the Zombie Complete Character Makeup Kit by Mehron.

Halloween Continues with Mehron Makeup

Halloween Continues with Mehron Makeup
Halloween is a continuation of centuries old traditions. Historians point to various ancient festivals honoring the gods, celebrating the harvest, honoring the dead, praying for the souls of the departed and the last day for fun and mischief before settling in for a long cold winter. Whether you want to believe that we can trace the roots of Halloween back to the Roman Goddess Pomona, the Roman Festival of Parentalia, or the the 8th Century Medieval Festival of Samhain, we know that written documentation of Halloween can be found in the works of William Shakespeare which dates Halloween at a minimum to of 1593. The similarities of Halloween and the Galectic Harvest Festival Samhain are hard to discount, even the dates coincide with Halloween. The Galectic Harvest Festival Samhain was held on October 31-November 1 and incorporated rituals associated with the Day of The Dead.

It is obvious that the traditions that have evolved in celebration of Halloween have continued to expand throughout cultures and time, taking from the past and adding in the present. Putting on disguises and trick or treating is very similar to the practice of souling in the Middle Ages, a practice that saw the poor going door to door and recieving food in exchange for prayers for the dead, which occurred on Hallowmas, November 1st. The earliest know in print usage of the term "trick-or-treat' was in the Hamlet of Blackie, Alberta, Canada in their local paper in 1927.

Halloween is a continuation of the festivals, cultures and traditions of centuries of human existence and may even some day be traced back further. In 1927 Mehron Melik began producing Theatrical Makeup for the Performers of New York City. In 2011 Mehron Makeup is now used by Performers throughout the world.
