Today's film industry is more reliant on makeup Artists than ever before. One just has to look to some current films to see the importance of the Makeup Artist in the creation of the story line. Currently at the Box Office the lead in the Film Orphan is a twelve year old actress, Isabelle Fuhrman, who plays a nine year old girl who is really a 33 year old woman. Although Ms. Furhrman undoubtedly has great acting skills without the Makeup Artist it would be difficult for her to pull off the transition in age.

The Film Orphan relies on Makeup Artists with various skill sets, Annick Chartier is listed as the Makeup Artist, while Jonathan Lavallee, George Tucci and Paul Jones are listed as SPFX Makeup Artists. Within the field of Makeup, Special Effects Makeup has become a highly skilled speciality. The work of Special Effects Make Up Artists will be very prevalent in the list of soon to be released films, including, District 9, Surrogate, Zombieland and the Vampire's Assistant.

The Film Industry is hungry for the talent of Special Effect Makeup Artists. Special Effect Make Up Artists are creatively skilled artists who use prosthetics and makeup to create the characters that the Writers and Directors envision for their Film. Even within the speciality of Special Effects Makeup their are specialists. Special Effect Makeup Artists who are skilled in latex, air brush makeup and prosthetics have evolved into another layer of skilled craftsmen that are classified as Make Up Artists.

The current crop of Films soon to be released are all heavily reliant on the talents of Specialty Make Up Artists. As the needs of the Film Industry change so will the need for Makeup Specialists. The advent of High Definition Video has already created a need for Air Brush Makeup Specialists, creating yet another craft under the title of Makeup Artist.
