In the Backstage section of Make-Up Magazine, 75th Issue, Lauren Kay writes about the upcoming Monster Musical that will soon hit Broadway, Shrek the Musical staring Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek and Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona. Lauren Kay discusses the monumental tasks of the Makeup Artist in staging a Production like Shrek. Shrek the Musical requires three Makeup Artists in attendance to smoothly change the characters throughout the Performance. Ms. Kay explains the immerse task faced by the Makeup Team that is in nightly attendance on the set of Shrek The Musical, headed by designer Naomi Donne, and Angela Johnson. As Ms. Kay puts it, "For a Production this big, only over the top make-up design would do."
The Article goes on to describe how prosthetics are used to create Shrek and how the changes are made by the Make-Up Team throughout the Performance. The Make-up designers spend full time hours tending to and preparing the prosthetics for the nightly Performances. Mehron developed a special Orge Green Makeup for Shrek's performance on Broadway and Mehron has made the same color available in their Fantasy F-X™ Makeup, a water based makeup.
For Princess Fiona portrayed by Sutton Foster, Ms. Kay explains in her article that in order "to hint at the princess's ogress" Mehron developed a new color in their Beauty Makeup Line called Shrek Green to enhance the look of Ms. Foster as Princess Fiona. Mehron has been in the footlights of Broadway for over eighty years and their research and development team is always ready to meet the challenges of Broadway Productions.
Make-Up Artist Magazine is available by subscription. Shrek the Musical will be at the Broadway Theatre. Mehron Makeup is available at Authorized Mehron Dealers throughout the world.
