In the October 2008 Global Cosmetic Industry (GCI) Magazine Martin Melik, President of Mehron, Inc., was the featured interview guest. The first question was how the Performance Makeup Industry would have to change because of the advent of Digital Television.
Mr. Melik, the son of the founder of Mehron and the current Executive Officer explained that Mehron continues to be the innovators in the Performance Makeup Industry just as they have been since their inception. He explained the challenges that will be faced by makeup artists and the product they use with the new clarity of HDTV. Mr. Melik responded, "To keep pace with the changing broadcast technologies, makeup worn by on-air talent needs to be much more natural looking than ever before". He continued to explain, "The challenge for manufacturers like Mehron was to develop various cosmetic product lines and formulas that look good in HD and yet still deliver the coverage needed by makeup artists for "corrective" makeup."
In keeping with the history of Mehron, Leaders in Theatrical Makeup, Martin Melik further explained how Mehron has already begun to meet the needs of the performers associated with the new digital technology of HDTV. "The talent still needs the creative magic of the makeup artist to adjust their features or create the specific character but HD requires products that accomplish this without the mask like appearance of more traditional cosmetics. Mehron's Celebré Professional Cream Make-Up addresses this challenge with a highly refined formula that is both oil and fragrance free. The Celebré color range avoids red undertones that can wreak havoc with the new, highly sensitive HD cameras."
As consumers we would never think about the changes that have to be made in makeup formulations to meet the changing needs associated with the Performance Industry. Mehron has always been the innovators of Professional Performance makeup and are a mainstay of Theatrical Makeup, so Martin Melik must always be a couple steps ahead to guide his researchers and chemists to develop the formulations that will be needed to keep pace with the ever changing needs of performance artists and on-air talent. Mr. Melik stays abreast of the changes that will be happening years from now and begins to apply his knowledge of Makeup in guiding his staff to produce the next generation of Makeup now.
In the GCI Magazine interview, Mr. Melik continued his thoughts on the needs of HDTV, “In concert with some of our private label clients, we have also developed propriety formulas of airbrush product lines. Airbrush application of makeup has become quite trendy with the switch to HD broadcast technology. Airbrushing can achieve a very natural, polished look." As you can detect by his answer, Martin Melik is very aware of the new direction that he will lead Mehron through in the coming years, as the needs of the Performance Community evolves so will Mehron under his leadership. New and innovative Makeup Products, applications, applicators, removers and special effects makeup are always being researched and formulated under Mr. Melik's direction at Mehron, Leaders in Theatrical Makeup since 1927.
