Workshop With Meagan Hester

Mehron, founded in 1927, is no stranger to being first. When Mehron was in its infancy, Mehron Melik was formulating makeup by hand for the performers on the stages of New York City. From those humble beginnings of hand formulating makeup as needed in his off Broadway Loft, Mehron Makeup has become the Leader in Theatrical Makeup, an Essential in Clown Makeup, a Pioneer in Face and Body Painting Makeup, and an Innovator of Beauty Makeup. Throughout the eighty plus years of continuous operation, Mehron Makeup has had a lot of firsts. Continuing in that tradition, Mehron Makeup is proud to announce another first. At their NEW Makeup Studio in the Mehron Headquarters, located at 100 Red Schoolhouse Road, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977, Mehron Makeup will present a two day hands-on Beauty Makeup Workshop with Makeup Artist Meagan Hester on September 10-11, 2011 from 10:00 AM -5:00 PM. Preregistration is required for this limited seating event that will allow Ms. Hester to give each attendee the personal attention that they need to bring their Makeup Artistry to the next level. For Registration Information and to reserve your spot contact Reyhan at 201-819-2654 or via email at Reyhan @mehron.com.

Meagan Hester - Featured Makeup Artist

The journey through life has many roads that lead to places unknown, the road that one does not take may just lead to the road that you were destined to travel. Such is the story of Meagan Hester, with teenage dreams of being a dancer, a leg injury put her on a different path. Leaving the accolades of a stage dancer behind, Meagan sought a new road that led her to the beginning of her career as a hairstylist in an upscale salon in Westchester County, New York, USA. As she became proficient in cutting, styling and coloring techniques, she felt that something was missing. Reporting to a shop everyday began to wear on her always seeking soul until one day she knew the time had come to seek another road.

Meagan Hester packed her bags and headed to Los Angles, California where she enrolled in the Make-up Designory (MUD), where the methodology is inspired learning, and the motto is; Apply, Blend and Achieve. Quickly inspired by the curriculum, Meagan immersed herself in every Makeup Application Artistry that MUD had to offer, taking a particular fancy to Special Effects Makeup, (SPFX). Exploring this new world was fascinating to Meagan and each course offered a new excitement and interest in the various disciplines of Makeup Artistry. Just as she quickly mastered Hairstyling in Westchester County, NY, Meagan was just as quickly mastering the art of Theatrical Makeup, Special Effects Makeup, Beauty Makeup, and High Fashion Makeup.

The Make-Up Designory is relatively close to Pasadena, CA, which is the home of the Los Angles International Make-Up Artist Trade Show(IMATS). Students of MUD are lucky to be able to attend this gathering of the Makeup Industry that features exhibitions, workshops seminars and competitions. The Makeup Competitions at IMATS pit the world's most talented Makeup Artists against each other as they are judged by their peers. Unique to the IMATS Competitions is the Student Competition, a chance for a Makeup Student or recent graduate of a Makeup Program to show their talent to the World's Most Renowned Makeup Artists. The IMATS Student Competition is only open to eight competitors from around the world who are selected and invited to participate. In 2008 Meagan Hester was one of the eight students in the world to be selected by IMATS to participate in the Student Competition attesting to her swiftly maturing talent as a Makeup Artist.

It was at the 2008 IMATS that Meagan Hester became acquainted with Mehron Makeup and met the Mehron Marketing Director Stephanie Ferreira, who recognizing her natural talent put her contact information in her database of Freelance Makeup Artists for future reference. Sometimes the future is right around the corner. Soon after the 2008 IMATS Meagan Hester returned to New York State and found herself in the position of being a Makeup Artist at a Fashion Show on the campus of Syracuse University where the lead Makeup Artist was the renowned Billy B. Diligently working on her assignments, Meagan was able to observe Billy B. and receive her first taste of working as a Freelance Makeup Artist. That night, working her first paid job as a Freelance Makeup Artist, Meagan Hester knew that she had found the excitement and satisfaction that she was seeking, and that it was exactly what she wanted.

With her go getter personality, easy mannerisms, and fountain of talent Meagan Hester has had a steady stream of work in her chosen Profession as Freelance Makeup Artist. From working on Films, Television, Music Videos, and High Fashion Magazine Spreads, to doing Special Effects Makeup for Mehron Photo Shoots and being part of the elite team of Mehron Makeup Artists at New York Fashion Week, this young twenty something Makeup Artist is steamrolling her way towards the Makeup Awards of the future.

With versatile talent that includes all Makeup Application, and Hairstyling, this Freelance Makeup Artist has her sights set on "doing it all", as Ms. Hester recently told the Mehron Blog in an interview about her goals, "I don't see any reason why I can't do it all, I want to do Films, Television, FX and Fashion Magazine Makeup. I would love to do Makeup For SNL!"

With her thumb on the pulse of what's hot in Makeup Innovation, Meagan Hester has worked for clients ranging from Music Choice, Angel Sanchez, HesterHouse Productions, Digio Blue and Mehron Makeup doing everything from Hairstyling and Fashion Makeup to Special Effects Makeup. This exuberant young Makeup Artist even volunteered to do Makeup for the Haiti Fundraiser spending long pay-less hours at the marathon event. With her energy never waning, Meagan has also volunteered to Work for the American Cancer Society in a program called, Look Good, Feel Better, where she hopes to teach active cancer treatment patients the benefits of using Beauty Makeup to look good and feel good.

Along with all that she has on her plate, Meagan Hester just completed a collaboration in an Independent Short Film sponsored by Mehron, "When Bobby Met Larry", directed by Phil Coccioletti, Produced by SugarCamp Films, Assistant Producer and Director Jessica Hester, Written and Performed by Carlos A. Gonzalez. Meagan Hester is the Key SPFX Makeup Artist and Character Art Director for this film. Although "When Bobby Met Larry" is still in post production, Mehron Blog Readers will have an inside look at this soon to released film in the coming days.

Although she has a full schedule, Meagan Hester is always looking for the next challenge and is a Freelance Makeup Artist and Hairstylist that is ready to meet your makeup needs. Strange Thing Happens from Alexander Khudokon on Vimeo.

Organized by the Festival de Cannes, the Short Film Corner is a presentation Site for the Short Film Maker, enabling them to have their film registered, viewed and placed in the digital library where industry insiders and financiers have access to the film. Strange Thing Happens is a film by Alexander Khudokon, Directed by Martin Toro starring Martin Lombard, Facundo Lombard, Antonio Paula, Emma Agerwald and Courtney Graff was entered into the Short Film Corner of the 2011 Festival de Cannes.

Mehron Studio and Stage Makeup was used in the making of Strange Thing Happens which was filmed in Yonkers, New York with almost thirty extras participating in the film. Written by Alenader Khudokon and Martin Toro, and filmed in Black and White, Strange Thing Happens is part of a trilogy. The Mehron Studio and Stage Makeup was applied by Makeup Artist Meagan Hester who has to take into account that the film was a black and white production. Since its founding in 2011 Mehron Makeup has added a rainbow of colors to its makeup collection since the days of black and white silent films, but as Meagan Hester has shown in Strange Thing Happens, Mehron Studio and Stage Makeup is perfect for every film production.

Mehron Studio and Stage Makeup has been around since every film was a Black and White Production. In using Mehron Studio and Stage Makeup for Strange Things Happen, Meagan Hester joined her counterparts from the past in working with makeup for a black and white film. Ms. Hester has used Mehron Makeup for many projects including Mehron Special Effects Stage Blood and Mehron Extreme Beauty Makeup, detailing for a black and white production requires controlling the makeup application so that it is captured correctly by the shadows of black and white film.

Inside Makeup for a Film

Meagan Hester applying Mehron Makeup to Avtor Carlos A. Gonzales fir the movie When Bobby Met Larry
Meagan Hester, Key SPFX Makeup Artist and Character Art Director for the soon to premier Independent Film When Bobby Met Larry written and performed by Carlos A. Gonzales, shared the list of Mehron Makeup products that she used to create the five main characters of the film. As a diverse Makeup Artist, Ms. Hester is familiar with all the Mehron Makeup Products and although this film did not call for using one of her favorite lines of Mehron Makeup Products, she did use a cross section of Mehron Makeup. In a recent interview, Meagan Hester related "I especially love the Mehron Blood Makeup for FX work". Although When Bobby Met Larry required her to use a lot of her makeup skills, it did not require using Performance Squirt Blood, Stage Blood, or Coagulated Blood Gel, but with Halloween on the horizon and the Vampire Age upon us, Meagan will surely be using these Mehron Products in the near future.

For the Characters of When Bobby Met Larry, a Production of SugarCamp Films, Meagan Hester used a variety of Mehron Makeup to transform Carols A. Gonzalez into five distinct characters. Ms. Hester used her Makeup Artistry to change the age, sex, and race of Actor Carlos A. Gonzales for his roles in the film, When Larry Met Bobby, Directed by Phil Coccioletti with Assistant Director Jessica Hester.

A Film With Mehron Makeup

Rosa from When Bobby Met Larry, a film with Mehron Makeup
When Mehron was approached about being involved with an Independent Film Project by Meagan Hester a Makeup Artist who has worked with Mehron over the last couple of years, of course the answer was yes. Mehron Makeup is steeped in the principals of its Founder Mehron Melik, who was a friend and supporter of the Performance Community. Continuing this tradition by sponsoring artists in all facets of performance, Martin Melik, the current President of Mehron, is pleased to have Mehron be a part of viable artistic endeavors by serious and conscientious artists with a plan and a worthy project. When Bobby Met Larry, a Film written and performed by Carlos A. Gonzales is one of those projects that Mehron was pleased to be a part of by supplying the Makeup needed to complete this project.

When Bobby Met Larry is a film about the interaction of five characters, whose flamboyancy and personality quirks project caricatures of themselves. All five central characters of When Bobby Met Larry are portrayed by Carols A. Gonzales, a comedian and actor who has appeared in Sex in the City, NYPD Blue, and Law and Order. Mr. Gonzalez wrote When Bobby Met Larry to highlight a cast of characters that have been a brewing concept in his mind for many years. Upon meeting the right combination of people it was clear to Carlos that the time had come to get this concept out of his mind and onto film.

The two main characters of When Bobby Met Larry, directed by Phil Coccioletti, and co-directed by Jessica Hester are of course Bobby and Larry who interact with the other three principal characters and themselves to form the nucleus of the film. Bobby and Larry interact with Giuseppe, Bobby's Grandfather, Rosa, the Waitress, and Will, the cook at a neighborhood restaurant and expose each others eccentricities through their interaction. When Bobby Met Larry is a Production of SugarCamp Films and is currently in post production for a soon to be announced premier.

With Carlos A. Gonzales playing all five of the main characters of When Bobby Met Larry, Makeup and a Makeup Artist were essential elements of this film's concept. The Makeup was supplied by Mehron Makeup from across all their Makeup Lines including but not limited to their Special Effects Makeup, Beauty Makeup and Theatrical Makeup. The Makeup Artist, practicing all her diverse skills to create five characters from a single performer was Meagan Hester. Listed in the credits as Key SPFX Makeup Artist and Character Art Director, Meagan Hester was much more than that to this film. She had to interpret the writer's concept of each character into real people using her skills in all forms of Makeup Artistry. Changing Mr. Gonzales from an older man as Giuseppe, into a woman as Rosa, and into Larry, a flamboyant, cocky vibrant personality, as well as turning Carlos into the somewhat crazy Will, a cook with an attitude, and into the nerdy, shy reserved Bobby. The performing ability of Carlos A. Gonzales is essential to project the personality of each character, the Makeup makes a performers job a bit easier as they are transformed to look like the character they are about to project. The skills of Makeup Artist Meagan Hester were put to the test in the making of When Bobby Met Larry, transforming one performer into five distinctively different characters is a task that any Makeup Artist would be proud to accomplish. The Makeup by Meagan Hester is so well accomplished that the viewer will easily forget that Carlos A. Gonzales is all five of the major Characters of When Bobby Met Harry. The Makeup for When Bobby Met Larry is all Mehron Makeup Products professionally applied by Ms. Hester, who recently told the Mehron Blog in an interview, "I love Mehron, it is consistent, easy to blend, great colors, and I have learned how to control it to get just the effect I want."
