IMATS Sydney 2009

Carolyn Roper Wins 1st Place at WBF

Carolyn Roper, the 2007 World Body Painting Champion, took the Award home again in 2009. Ms. Roper who is an accomplished Makeup Artist residing in the United Kingdom has also become one of the World's foremost Body Painting Artists, as can be attested two by her winning the World Body Painting Champion Award two out of the last three years.

Carolyn's attention to detail and natural eye for color can be seen in the above photo of her 1st Place Award Winning entry at the 2009 World Bodypainting Festival held in Austria from July 13 -19. Carolyn Roper is one of the Body Artists who featured LUX Airbrush Makeup by Mehron in her World Bodypainting Festival entry. Alex Hansen Places 2nd in the World

Alex Hansen won the Second Place Award for Airbrush at 2009 World Bodypainting Festival. Mr. Hansen is no stranger to world accolades as he has placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in many contests throughout the world in Makeup Artistry. For this years Competition Mr. Hansen used all the colors of LUX Airbrush Makeup by Mehron and painted with both stencils and free hand.

The patient model for Alex Hansen was Sarah Dean, who wins the award for patience and strength for her ability to stand for the duration of the body painting and her skill in balancing the intricate head piece that capped the Bodypainting performed by Mr. Hansen. Following his 2008 First Place Award, Mr. Hansen did not shy away from experimenting and produced an extravagant final presentation for the judges and audience to view at the 2009 World Bodypainting Festival.

Alex Hansen and Special Effects Makeup

Alex Hansen the 2008 World Bodypainting Festival Winner, placed third in the world at the 2009 Bodypainting Festival in the category of Special Effects Makeup demonstrating his abilities in all the disciplines of Makeup Artistry. With an entry that would make horror film monsters scream, Mr. Hansen pushed the envelop of Special Effects Makeup and created a character that was extreme gore. Creating a character whose body organs were on the outside of his body, Alex stretched the limits of Special Effects Makeup. Alex Hansen designed the Headpiece on his Special Effects inside out man, and received a hand from Yolanda Bartram who used her skill with fabrication to assist in bringing Mr. Hansen's vision to the stage.

The World Bodypainting Awards

The 2009 World Bodypainting Festival came to a thunderous conclusion in front of a record crowd in Austria on July 19, 2009. The Awards in the final categories were judged and handed out in Bodypaint City. The gathering of Body Painters, Makeup Artists and Face Painters drew to a successful conclusion right before midnight.

The First Place Award in the Brush/Sponge Category will be traveling back to the USA in the hands of Nick Wolfe and Brian Wolfe. The Second Place Award in the Brush and Sponge Competition is heading to South Korea proudly carried by Hee-Kyung Choi and Park Ju Hee. The Third Place presentation will find a home in Canada displayed by Lucie Brouillard.

The hotly contested Airbrush World Bodypainting First Place Award stayed in Austria awarded to Chris OBSN Oberheber. The Second Place Award will be traveling home with Alex Hansen from Brazil. The Third Place Award will be coming to the USA, Home of LUX Airbrush Makeup, in the possession of Patrick McCann.

In the Category of Special Effects Bodypainting, Ms. Carolyn Roper from the UK was awarded First Place. Second Place went to Birgit Mörtl from Austria, and Third Place will also reside in Austria on the shelf of Ludwig Decarli.

2009 World Bodypainting Festival Winners

As we wait for the remaining winners to be announced at the World Bodypainting Festival 2009 that is concluding today in Austria, we can recognize some of the winners in the competitions that have been completed, judge and awarded.

First Place for Special Effect Make Up was awarded to Yolanda Bartram, from New Zealand. Second Place was awarded to Alessandro Piva, Italy. Taking the Third Place Award was Alex Hansen, Brazil.

The 2009 World Fluoro Award was awarded to Agnieszka Glinska & Joanna Ciesla, Poland. Receiving the Second Place Award was Wolf Reicherter, Germany. Third Place went to Birgit Mörtl, Austria

The 2009 Amateur Award in the Brush/Sponge Catergory First Place was awarded to
David Noah, Israel. Taking home Second Place was Martina Rom, Austria. The Third Place Amateur Brush/Sponge 2009 Award was taken back to France by Karen Savard.

From Canada, Lucie Brouillard received the First Place Award for Facepainting sponsored by Mehron. Keeping the Second Place Award in Austria was Gabriele Hajek-Renner. Bringing the Third Place Award back to the USA, the Home of Mehron, was John Vargas.

The theme of July 17th, and 18th, 2009 is “Poetry – the power of words", while the final day's theme is, “Spirituality – beyond the visible world”, lofty goals for the imaginations of Body Painting Makeup Artists representing over 40 countries at the 2009 World Bodypainting Festival. The Stage is Calling You Back

Even with plenty of summer left to go, Back to School Sales are beginning. Returning students need new notebooks, pens, pencils, books and clothes. There are students who don't think about returning to school especially in the middle of summer fun. The Drama Teachers and Professors of Theater know exactly which students are longing to come back and start a new theatrical season. Teaching might not be the right word for the people who dedicate their lives to living theater that they share each semester. They are more like guides, showing the way to the inner actor that lies within each student. Zombie Walk to Fight Cancer

On July 19, 2009 in the coastal town of Poole, Dorset, England Body Painting Artists have organized a creative way to raise money in the fight against cancer, a Zombie Walk. The two designated recipients of the donated funds are the Macmillan Cancer Support and Julia's House.
